The Rune Masters of Odin published in 2024 is the prequel to the two rune master saga books written in 2011 and 2015 (see below). The prequel tells the Viking Age story of young Caryn who wishes to become a rune master and is trained and mentored by village rune master Ingvild. Odin, the all-powerful god of wisdom accepts Caryn's sevice as rune master and foretells her performing a future act of significance in controlling the forces of man and nature.  While awaiting to perform that act and being assigned as rune master to another village, Caryn helps Ingvild provide rune spells of healing and other services in the communioty, including spells of protection by Odin for her brother and cousin who are celebrated trader ship captains who establish a new trade route to Iceland. 

                                  

The Rune Master Saga introduces Glyndr, a 16-year old girl in 9th century Norway, who is expected to marry and become a farmer's wife. She prefers instead to learn the divination and spells of a rune master. The village rune master agrees to train her, but her training is interrupted while becoming involved in matching wits with an evil rune master helping King Harald become king of all Norway. Only the force of the prophecy of three, never created before, can oppose the evil rune master serving the King.

 

In the second and third story of the book, Glyndr and her trader brother leave Norway in search of new lives and new trade routes in the "New World." Glyndr's rune skills are needed in facing a dangerous volcano threatening settlers and natives in Iceland, and in the Green Land she must help avoid the threat of war among opposing native groups. 

 

 

 

The Rune Master Saga II: Beyond Green Land, a sequel to the first book, continues with two more stories of the adventures of Glyndr and her brother. In Newfoundland she is opposed by the spiritual leader of the natives and must win him over. In Labrador, she seeks the support of the spirits of the land who are suspicious of the purpose of the traders.

 

In the last story in the sequel, Glyndr and her brother must return to Norway to help their brother and Glyndr must seek the help of her rune master teacher and mentor in using the dark spells.
